new member - ranger problem 2003 -3.0L
Hi , problem with my 2003 ranger with a 3.0 v-6 automatic. 50k miles. Been running fine. Driving cross country this past week and felt a bit "different" - sluggish - thought maybe fuel filter ? I replaced that with no difference. What is the "redline" on this engine.? It will cut out at near 4000 rpm when I rev it sitting in park. I was thinking it should rev a bit higher. It just cuts out like a rev limiter at 3500/4000rpm standing still in park. On the road it will run 75 mph - down shifts, upshifts fine. Revs to 4000 rpm when downshifting and then drops back to under 3000rpm at a cruising speed. ONCE during this cross country trip going up a grade , cruise set running good until it just like the cruise was disengaged. Did not stop running. I just kept steady on the throtle and climbed the grade at speed. No check engine lights on. Starts fine.
Thanx ! |
in park i think there is a different rev limiter then when driving. free reving a motor is harder on it the reving under a load. what does the motor rev to when acclerting quickly

Actually, I'm surprised your truck revs to 4K in park. My '04 is limited to 3K. It will rev much higher when you're in a forward gear. I'm not that familiar with the 3.0, but my I'm pretty sure my 4.0 revs to 6K. |
Yes - just checked it again - closer to 3k. I guess I never really "checked" the standing rpms before. I know my other vehicles will rev to redline when standing in park.
Maybe all in my head - worry too much about a breakdown so far from home. I'll take it out on the freeway and see if it will rev up past 4k in the hammer lane. |
