Best sound for 2.3L

I have a 2002 2.3L and I want a new muffler. I want it to be loud but not too obnoxious or too ricey. I know it will sound like a ricer because it's an I4, but I want to minimize that and still make it louder. I was thinking about getting a $20 glasspack but I've heard mixed things about them. If I sell my stock rims I could get a flowmaster or something similar. If I went that route should I get a Super 44 or something else? I want it to sound good on a 2.3. Thanks

Would a Thrush Welded sound good on a 2.3? It's less money and my friend has one on his V6 explorer and it sounds pretty good on that. I don't know if it'll sound good on my I4 though.

The thrush sounds good! Cheap with a good deep tone

Yea I like that it has a deep tone like that and it's only $30 too! Definitely affordable for a broke college student haha

Ryan - I recommend that you go to Youtube and look up the various videos there with the various exhaust configurations. Many, many examples to sift through (like the one Sean hooked you up with) to find the sound you are looking for. I also recommend that you find the videos that give you the cabin sound perspective (fewer of those). Loud is one thing, but a long and painful droning in the cab might have you second guessing your exhaust purchase. Better to find out before you spend your money.

Good luck!

Thanks Kevin. I've been sorting through a few videos and my friend was talking to me about it too. I don't know if I should dump it under the bed or make it go out the side. I like the idea of dumping it because it's out of sight but I don't want the drone.

I suppose it depends on the look you are after. Keep in mind though that you want to dump it out beyond the parts that can rust!

In my research for a solution, one that would increase flow, improve MPGs and perhaps HP slightly, I found a kit from a manufacturer in California. Very reasonably priced and the sound was louder than stock, but not overly aggressive. I'm older, so I didn't want a loud system. This was a reasonable compromise for me and one I was considering buying. However, my exhuast failed suddenly and I had to get a Monro replacement (pipe was dragging after the Cat). You may want to give that system a look. I'll try to find a link to post.

Kevin

update: the manufacturer is CGS. Check out there site and see if it appeals to you. http://www.carid.com/2000-ford-range...cgs-85638.html

This is my truck with just a Thrush Welded and dumped before my rear axle. I'm thinking about getting the resonator removed, and the guy who did my muffler said it would only cost $10.

sounds like a dirtbike^

Yea that's why I'm thinking of taking the resonator off. It's deeper in person but still kinda high

If you want a flowmaster 40 or 50 series on a 2.3l ranger can you have a local shop just replace the stock muffler or do you need to replace the piping also. I really just want to get a 40 or 50 series muffler for my '11 2.3l and use bolt on tips so I can change the look when I want. Also how would this sound as opposed to changing the piping?
