Ranger 2.5--Ford, or Mazda

Hello, I am new to this forum. I've owned my '01 Ranger. 2.5l 4X2 since '02. Anyway, a guy a work has a '94 Ranger, also with a 2.5l. He claims that the Ford Ranger is basically a Mazda. I know in the "old' days (I am a child of the 60's), the Ford Courier was really a Mazda. Can anyone enlighten me? For example, is the 2.5 built by Ford or Mazda? Thanks.

PS I really am impressed with this Ranger website. I have viewed other Ranger sites, and I feel your site is alot more mature and filled with honest, straightforward answers without using jargon I cannot understand. I am grateful I found it.

The Ford Courier is a rebadged Mazda. After the Courier/Maz varient died, Ford and Maz both made their own unique trucks totally different from eachother in the 80's into the early 90's. Ford's was the Ranger, Maz was the B-series. Ford redesigned the Ranger in '93 and mazda took it and rebadged it in '95 for north american sales. Ford's relationship with Mazda is strong...many of Ford's top selling cars are infact Mazda underpinnings. Rumor as of last week is that relationship between the two is dwindling.

In short, Ford was a mazda. 80's were two totally different trucks. Recent years, Mazda is a Ford. If that makes any sense. lol.

Your 2.5 or your friends 2.3 are both straight up Ford.

Just found this... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_B-Series Confusing the Maz/Rangers are. lol.

Thanks Shane! Just as I suspected--Ford (which is not a bad thing of course). The 2.5 must be good, he has abt 200k miles on his, never rebuilt.

Yeah, those Lima series engines are tanks. Not much in the power department, but that can easily be taken care of cheaply! haha. Hairdryer!!
