Disable check engine light

any way to make the light not come on just to get it inspected?
i think i put the wrong computer in it and its throwing a code...
dont have the time to look into it at the moment wondering if there was a quick fix? thanks

You can turn it off, but it will come back on. You can disconnect battery for a little and it should turn off. but once you drive so many miles, it will turn on again. Advance Auto can check and clear it for you, but like I said, it will still be in the system until the problem is fixed

No there is not. The only way to do it is to disconnect the battery to clear the code. But if it is an immediate problem on start up it will just come back on. They are designed to show there is a problem both to the driver and any shops that work on it test it.

in PA check engine lights dont effect the outcome of your emissions pass/fail. anything 1996 and older is good to go...thanks for the responses im in the clear.

I bet you could do a little fancy but simple electrical work to cut power to the CEL once the car is running :P

Some 95 vehicles had OBD2 as well. I know my 95 towncar does. Not sure on any of the rangers though.

Advance and Autozone are no longer permitted to clear the codes for customers.
