Windshield wiper issue

Hi, I have a 1994 Ford Ranger 2wd 6 cyl engine. I took it in for State inspection today, they called and said the wipers won't work. Never had issues with them prior to this and used them 2 days ago. When I turn them on I hear a clicking sound coming from under the dash:confused:. I don't hear the wiper motor humming or anything. Can someone please give me suggestion of what to look at or test please. If I press for water that works just fine.

Thanks

Gary

Re: Windshield wiper issue

well the clicking you hear is the relay for the wiper motor...maybe your motor took a crap on ya but its unusual for them to just fail

I forgot to mention I was able to locate the module behind the dash it's about 7 inches long 5 inches wide 1 inch thick has 1 harness in it, is this the wiper control module ?? The clicking is not loud at all.

Re: Windshield wiper issue

the clicking is the relay that makes the motor run when any of the int. settings are selected

Re: Windshield wiper issue

id pull the motor out of the truck and test it with some jumper wires and a booster pack...if it runs like that then you something else is wrong but if the motor doesnt run then its shot

Would you have any idea what the shop would do for a quick fix if they are low life enough to break something and then charge you to fix it. The first thing they said looks electrical to us, might be a fuse or something like that. could something disconnected cause the clicking sound

Thanks, it's the motor. I tested and had power to the connector point. I found a motor off a 94 ranger today for $12.00. I plugged it into the connector and grounded it and the replacement worked fine. I'll replace it this weekend. I also piked up the AC compressor for $20.00 I really appreciate all your help and suggestions.

I sure hope you have a lot of patients or little hands. I just reinstalled the wiper motor on my Ranger and it was a nightmare.
It wouldn't be so bad if you could put the c-clip back on the crank bar, but usually you have to install the crank bar then install the motor back on the shaft with the 8 mm bolt because there's hardly any room to get your hand in the cowl. Worst design I've ever seen.

Thanks Fordfan444, I was looking at that the cowl hole looks mighty tight. When I went to pickup the used motor I got to laughing they took it off the easy way, cut right through the top vent area. I don't believe that would look to good but then again duct tape fixes all :)
