just changed drive belt

i just got done changing my drive belt and oh my god was it ridiculous. i could barely get my 3/8 ratchet into the tensioner pulley and then i couldnt turn it cuz the fan cover (i think thats what its called) was in the way, took way longer than expected but got a new gatorback belt on there.

When I changed my alternator I had to have my dad help

I took the ratchet 90 degree turn to get the tensionor all the way where we could get the belt on

ya it was a bitch tryin to crank that ratchet with one hand and put the belt on with the other. i eventually gave up on my standard 3/8 b/c it was too hard holding it on the pulley with my left hand. so i grabbed my breaker bar and even that was a bitch to do.

is the belt all you have to take off to get to the alternator?

Do it from underneeth. I find it easiest that way. Then snaking the belt out from the top and letting it drop to the ground. I like to use a long handle(12") 3/8 ratchet and my hand holding the tensioner if I need to get a couple more clicks out of the ratchet.

*on my 4.0L SOHC. Other engines may be different.

U dont have to take the belt off to remove the alt. U can undo the bolts for the alt. and pull it out. U then have to release tension on the belt to get it back on

I borrowed the tool from the parts store. Made everything easy and its free.
