HELP Rough idle, Dies, NEED HELP FAST

So I take my truck to the mall today, 15 mi each way, runs and drives like it has been for the last year and a half- perfectly. Truck is a 2004 3.0 automatic with flowmaster exhaust, and nothing else.

So i just go to take it for a cruise, and i go to start it, and the key kind of slips, so i only get like a half a turn (not enough to start it). I then turn the key and it starts, but idles jumping from 500 to 1200, then dies after jumping for a bit. Its making really weird exhaust noises, and i have to keep it idling by being on the gas. If i rev it up, it stops at 3000. I cant seem to figure out what happened? didnt drive through any puddles, it just was parked, cooled off for 2 hours, and now this. Didnt touch anything, and now it just is doing this.

Ideas? Thanks

Also, no check engine light. Just seems like its starving. Fuel? Fuel Filter?

Check the idle air control. I was just playing around a while back and unplugged mine and it was familiar to that. Just and idea

It will be on the intake on the throttle body. Looks like a little tube with a wire plugged into it.

Okay, figured out the problem! underneath the IAC there is a male air line that looks like it lost a hose, so i plugged it up with my thumb and it idled like new. Can someone with a 2004 ford ranger 3.0 or whatever IAC goes with that post a pic of under their IAC showing if its a hose or just a plug? thanks!

Someone with a 2004 3.0 please take a picture of the black male 1/2 inch fitting and whether it is just capped or has a hose or what not? i think mine fell off?

Bam! had a feeling it had to do with air, sounds all too alike. Glad you figured it out but i have a 4.0 ohv so i probably can't help you anymore. Good luck
