93 leaking coolant from intake manifold?

My 93 ranger has definitely been a project. I've put a lot of time and some money into it but now I might be stuck. I've replaced the water pump, radiator, all coolant hoses, thermostat, thermostat housing, heater core (3 times), and I have no water in oil. However, after I drive and then shut off engine coolant starts streaming down the passenger side of engine, and appears to be coming from above water pump but below the thermostat housing and am sure that is not the source of the leak. So I am wondering if it is coming from the intake manifold? Or maybe I have a cracked block? Anybody have any take on this or suggestions?

It is possible that its coming from the lower intake, the intake gaskets are known to fail on those, I had the same issue with my 93 4.0. Best thing to do though would to pressure test the system so you can pinpoint the leak and know for sure. (you can rent cooling system pressure testers from autozone)

Wouldn't be too worried about doing it if I were you. s long as ya take your time will be about a 6 to 8 hour project. Would recommend a wire wheel for cleaning the gasket areas, saves a lot of time. Just finished mine up tonight after a nice leak out of the drivers side rear port had started leaking.

Its worth it to replace the gaskets anyway since they have since been redesigned since the originals.

Re: 93 leaking coolant from intake manifold?

I just had the same problem with my 1994 4.0L. Its probably leaking from the Inlet manifold. The intake on the 4.0 is a 3 piece system there is a intake what you see no top the fuel rail in the middle and the inlet manifold which is on the bottom. Its a very involving job it you are up to the challenge I can post some pictures and ranger book from the auto parts store can talk you through it just fine. By the way if do it your self get the new gasket from the dealer its not that gasket paper they redesigned it, its aluminum and rubber. The parts store will only have the paper one.
Good Luck.

Intake manifold and the Timing chain covers are known for leaking when you get above like 150k miles.
Felpro makes some decent gaskets, its what i used to stop my leaky valve cover.
Timing chain has yet to be done.

Napa has the metal and rubber Felpro gasket set. Not the paper one. Probably a lot cheaper also. I just bought mine last week from Napa and was the new design.
