tire carrier?

so i have my spare and it doesnt fit under the bed, but i need all my bed space, so i designed a pretty simple swing out tire carrier that replaces the tailgate. question is: do you think simple 1.5"x1.5" square steel tubing is strong enough to support the tire? it weights about 50#. i was planning on bolting a support frame to the bed where the latch bolts onto, and using an l bracket that goes up to the side of the bed rail for extra support. heres the design, its not attached anywhere because i dunno how to make the program do it, lol, but at all intersections it will be welded:

the 3 outside bars are the support bars and would be bolted, the inside rectangle is the actual carrier that will be welded and gusseted at all points. is this structurally sound? will it work? any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated
and the tire will be mounted right where the middle bar meets the top bar

ya, i've seen those and really want one, but for $660, its a little out of my budget, the material cost to make it yourself is less than $100, the money i save i could use to buy a front winch bumper!
