Parking Brake cable install problem

The front parking brake cable broke on my 2000. I have everything removed and replaced except I can not get the new cable attached back in the control assembly. Is there a trick or something to get it back in?

I had the same thing happen to my 2002, I ended up pulling the assembly out and taking it down to the ford dealership. They pulled the cable while the assembly in a vice. It is spring loaded so it will self tension. You have to do the same, after you get the cable to where it can be removed, and yes, it is going to take alot of pullin power, you have to put a pin in that you leave in until you get the assembly re installed and the new cable is hooked up to the existing cable. You than pull the alignment pin, and it will tighten the system.
