Intake manifold torque specs

There are 6 bolts on the upper intake manifold that I need to know the order which they are supposed to be tightened. The chilton manual says to tighten then to 138 inch pounds, then go to 19 foot pounds. I obviously did something wrong though because I snapped a bottle in the process. 19 foot pounds seems scary tight.

i just did mine tonight and hayins ( how ever you spell it) boo told me the same thing not in what order they went in. i just went in a zigg zag and it worked just fine started at the short bolt then moved to the first top then the last bottom then right up top and down to the last one

I snapped what appears to be the #1 bolt (driver side middle) while torquing it to 19 ft lbs per the Haynes manual. Anyone know an updated source? Anyone done this before?

Re: Intake manifold torque specs

It wasn't the torque that snapped the bolt, it was already stressed because I can almost tighten an aluminum 1/4-20 tighter than that without it snapping.

Either the bolt was stressed already by being abused in one of many ways not necessarily by you but a previous owner/mechanic OR there is something wrong with your torque wrench or you had it set wrong/didn't hear the beep or click depending on what style of torque wrench. 20 foot pounds isn't the problem.

10Nm = 7Ft Lb

19FT LB = 25Nm OVER 2X THE SPECIFIED TORQUE

STL's post shows different torque specs between the upper and the lower, which were you doing?

Re: Intake manifold torque specs

I was doing the top (pic A0032700). It was #1 bolt that snapped. I was taking my time with my 1/4" drive torque wrench. I actually had the wrench set for about 15 ft/lbs as 19 was at the upper end of my wrench & I was trying to be careful.

All of that being said I guess I should have read this post before trustinh my Haynes. 7 ft/lbs would have been cake. The other bolts torqued just fine before #1 snapped.

I've no air leaks now but I'll need to get this rectified. Does anyone know where I can source a new upper intake plenum bolt? I've found plenty of head bolts and lower intake but nothing for the top.

Thanks in advance, I appreciate all the comments-M5

Does anyone happen to know the length of the upper intake manifold bolts? If you happen to have one out please measuer and let me know.- Thanks-M5
