Heater Blower Switch Not Working

1996 Ford Ranger 4x4

Turn on the heater or A/C, and only get air blowing from the defroster vents, regardless of what position I put the switch to i.e. will not blow air through floor or dash vents.

It is blowing air, blower speed control does work. A/C is cool, heater is hot.

Any suggestions as to what is wrong and how to fix?

Vacuum leak. The vacuum line goes from the port on the intake manifold around to the vacuum reservoir orb under the air filter box. Then it goes into the cab to the HVAC control panel. You can access the part in the cab by lowering the glove box down and removing the HVAC control panel. The line is probably broken or unplugged somewhere along the way.

OK, I'll take a look at those and get back to this thread on what is found.

Thank you.

Vacuum leak alright. Turns out, the Vacuum Reservior (orb) was no longer bolted to the fender well and was laying loose against a fan belt, which had rubbed a large hole in it. Found one in town at a dealer, neighbor picking it up in the morning.

Thank you for all the help FireRanger. Could not have solved it without you!

That gaping hole in the vacuum reservoir would certainly do it.

Re: Heater Blower Switch Not Working

Put in the new Vacuum Reservoir, everything working fine again. $35 including tax. Dealer probably would have charged me several hundred dollars.

Oddly enough, the hood light started working again. Go figure.

Thanks again FireRanger.
