Cold air intake might help. And also try seafoaming it might get back it's lost hp.

cold air intake is the biggest gimmick in aftermarket history...go jerk it to fast and furious dipshit

seafoam is a hardcore cleaner...drop half a can into your gas and suck the other half into a vacuum line (preferably your brake booster line if you have power brakes)
it'll clean out any gunky buildup

the 2.3 is a great motor....so start off with some headers
go to a junkyard and find a 95-97 ranger with a 2.3....they came factory with headers
its a cheap factory bolt on with decent power gains
a decent junkyard should let you have them for about $50

in addition to that....get some good exhaust...2.5" pipe all the way out with no cat and a decent muffler

if your 2.3 is carbed....probably with a single barrel.....try a decent sized 2 barrel (nothing huge...probably around 300 cfm)

the 2.3 also responds VERY well to porting
if its your daily...go to junkyard and find a used 2.3 head
have it checked to make sure its good and within specs
take it to a machine shop and have them port and polish the intake and exhaust ports.....and install some slightly bigger valves

also check out Racer walsh or esslinger for an aftermarket cam
though pricey...very much worth it....

i did most of the above on my 87 and it dynoed around 135 hp
not insane but for a motor that was factory rated at 90....it was a hell of a boost

ya its a single barrel carb. for sea foaming do you have to full your gas tank first and then use it or can u just put it in?

Re: 83 ranger hourse power

Just poor it in.....half tank would be best.

^^ haha yeah thats the only way your gona get decent power on your ranger I would suggest swappin it for a 4.0 or go a lil bigger and do a 5.0 especially your truck which is easier to work on then the newer models

will the 4.0 bolt rite up to my transmission? or would i have to get a different tranny

Re: 83 ranger hourse power

I think your gona need a new tranny from a 4.0 that can handle the power upgrade

id do up your 2.3 like he said above. would be the cheaper route and would be stuff you could do here and there and still be able to drive your truck every day. imagine that thing with big cam ha would be pretty cool.
check these out, pretty cool for 4 bangers.

th idle on this one is pretty cool.

this one is cool, built 2.3 with i think a 2.5 crank and bored/stroked, but a hotter cam

----------

oh heres a seafoam thing i found
would be good to do this BEFORE you do sparkplugs, heard it can foul them out on SOME vehicles, but most ppl havent had a problem
