can I disable the trasponder in my ignition
 

Got my new truck a month ago and decided to go have an extra key made. Can't believe it, I have to make an appointment and it is going to cost $87.00 plus taxes.. around $100 total.
Really.....come on.

So the question then... Can I disable the transponder in my ingition so that it will start with a normal $2.50 key? You know, the old way.

the question is why would you want to?...i know with my insurance company i get a discount for having PATS

They stopped putting PATS on trucks in 2003

You 100% sure you have a transponder? Post a picture of your key and we can tell.

my 03 has PATS...ford stopped pats in 05...only put in on the v6 trucks in 06 and in 07+ it became standard across the board

That's right 05 was the end cause I got lucky and dint get it on mine.

If you already have two PATS keys, you can make your own copies. Buy the blank keys on ebay for like $5, have the key cut copied at a hardware store for another $5. Then follow the procedure in the manual for programming it yourself for free.

IF you only have one PATS key, you are indeed screwed. You will have to go to the dealer and bed over.

X2 ! That is what I was just gunna state!
My spare cost me $7 on eBay ,but $15 to have it professionally cut
Still..key works great and I saved a ton!
By-the-way ... Careful on purchasing some keys...
BRASS keys are what you want ,not steel !
It will wear down your ignition switch

Walmart can do the PATS key and it isn't as bad as the dealer...I got mine off ebay went to Wal-Mart had them program one so I would have two then I did the other one when I got home...I have 3 and I will always have 3 now at all times...when I broke my last one I ordered a new key ASAP then got it cut and programmed it cost about 12 bucks for the key and getting it cut...

so wait my ranger doesnt have PATS? my key is the big bodied one, with an S stamped on it...

okay thats what i thought! people saying it ended in 05 confusing me... lol
i wanted to make sure my $25 off of my yearly insurance total wasnt because i lied! LOL!

So they stopped completely for a year, then put it in some vehicles for two years, then all vehicles after that???

yes sir...99 started PATS in the V6 rangers,01 it became standard across the board...05 they stopped putting in it for some reason...in 06 only the V6 rangers got PATS and in 07 it became standard across the board again
