Just hit a skunk.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section since apparently I shouldn't come to the off topic section unless I want to see a political thread....this is definitely not political.

I was just driving home from a buddies house and I hit a skunk. Of course, being a skunk, when it was smashed by my super awesome 235-75-15 tire, it decided to spray the shit out of my truck. Recently, the same thing happened to my Chevy and I was able to remove it with claybar, but the whole bottom of the rocker panel where the skunk sprayed the Ranger is basically rusted, and I don't want to waste a good bar of clay rubbing rust. I read a thing awhile back saying you could use a bleach solution, but can you really use bleach on car paint/rust without damaging it? I would let it wear away, but it's on the drivers side and I'd rather not smell it every time I get in (it's really bad....it's too bad pictures can't do a smell justice).

And before you ask, no I didn't stop to see if it was ok....it's a skunk in the middle of a road getting hit by a Ranger at 60. It's dead. And no, I did not pull it off the side of the road. In fact, I didn't even tap on the brakes. It's a skunk. I am not saying it deserved to die, but I'm not going to touch the fucking thing. I am sure that a coyote will grab it before morning because they love skunk.

Are you sure it wasn't a whore?

I heard tomato juice works with the smell...don't hold me to it...
Maybe this will help...

If it was a whore, I probably would have stopped, gave her a ten and asked for some change. It's been awhile, but it still should cost less than $10, especially if she smells like skunk!

I don't know, those whores in fur coats can be pretty pricey...

Totally. Tomato juice isn't even allowed in my stomach, let alone the body panels of my truck. Thanks for the suggestion, though ;)

Both of my dogs were sprayed by a skunk a couple of years ago. I did a google search and came up with a solution that worked well. (not tomato juice) Below is the skunk spray recipe that is designed for animals, should also work on a truck, don't know what it will do to the rusty metal. :D

The Skunk Remedy Recipe
In a plastic bucket, mix well the following ingredients:
1 quart of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide
1/4 cup of baking soda
1 to 2 teaspoons liquid soap
for very large pets one quart of tepid tap water may be added to enable complete coverage.

i tried a solution that was brought to me (told after it was similar to what was posted above me) and it worked well. but that was on my skin, not a metal body.

Re: Just hit a skunk.

Honestly when this happened to me a few months back I just waited lol. It sucked but after about a week, I think it rained once or so and driving back and forth to work and school it finally went away. I guess I didn't help much here but really if I had to do it again I still wouldn't have tried to get it to go away. Only smelled bad for a few days and that was only when I was getting in and out of my truck.

I will say, I bet my 33x12.5 duratrac at 55mph hurt like hell. I prolly should have went back and took a picture. Instead of having the Duratrac snow or mud pic, I could have the Duratrac skunk got f'd pic.

Douche works. No kidding. Safe for skin or anything else.
It breaks a molecular bond in the spray just like vinegar does - which you can also try straight.
Tomato juice has a ton of acid in it - I'm glad you refuse to use it.

Re: Just hit a skunk.

What about a couple touchless car washes, and make sure the vehicle gets sprayed from underneath? The smell can't last forever.
