Looking for new tires and wheels

Hey there!

I'm new to the forum, my name is Alexa and I have a 2004 XL 2WD 3.0 V6. Nothing fancy, all stock, white with black grille and bumpers.

I'm in need of some new tires that will get me around this winter. Here in Indiana we get it all... snow, sleet, ice, or all three at once. I traded in my 1998 f:250 4.6 XLT 4X4 for this Ranger because the gas was absolutely killing me (averaging around 12 at the time, now getting 19-21 in the Ranger depending on the week.) But that truck was my baby, dad gave it to me as my first truck and I drove the hell out of it. But driving an hour to class 5x a week in biggin was not agreeing with my budget.

Anywho, since I don't have 4WD anymore and my tires only have about 30% tread left, I'm looking for some good AT tires that will not only get my around in the snow, but give my Ranger a much meatier look. Right now, it looks like an AutoZone truck.

I want to go as big as possible without rubbing or having to lift it. I'd like to go pretty wide, want em to stick out a little past the fenders a little.

Not meaning to pull the girl card... but I have no idea what tire dimensions mean and need some help.

If I'm looking for wide and big as possible without lift, what dimensions do I need?? What's a good AT tire that looks plenty meaty but won't absolutely kill my milage?

Also looking for new wheels. Black or chrome and would look good with some meaty tires. What size, brand, style, whatever should I look for?

Thanks a ton guys :)

probably the biggest you want to go is a 30-9.5
which means a tire that is 30 inches high and 9.5 inches wide.
as for what tire, im not supper experienced with all terrains but if you want something thats good in the snow and ice i have been very impressed with my BF Goodrich Mud Terains
Check out this site for wheels and tires. theyve got some good deals and a nice variety of wheels

Thank you very much!

What should I look for as far as new wheels go? Those stock steel things are just kind of hideous.

Well mud terrains are all fine and dandy, but they wont last as long,
I had Cooper Discoverer ATR's, stock size non the less, last year and i did just fine, you have to just weigh down the back with, oh 200-250 lbs.
But the only problem is i havent seen the ATR's on there web site, so im not sure if there still available. Theyve been replaced with the AT3 on the website, but you may be able to get them still from a tire shop.

Uhh, never said I wanted the best milage, just said I didn't want to kill it. Anything is better than the 12 I used to get.

Thanks to everyone else for the options and explanations of dimensions. Once I decide on what I want I will be sure to post pictures to see what you guys think. Thanks again.

take a look at walmart...(seriously) they have some goodyears that are pretty meaty and arent priced bad either.

and since you cant run much bigger than 30ish sizes....it'd be perfect.

if you want some rims....that dont weigh 100lbs...dont buy steel wheels. you WILL feel the difference. and its kinda unecessary too lol.

find some aluminum ones....if you care that is.

Thanks Fork80, too bad I'm 3k miles away.

rstangboi, I will definitely look into aluminum, they will be cheaper as well, right?

The wheels cost me $520. The tires were 633 when I bought them. But they are easily 800 now installed.
