The prices are ridiculous.

A base model 4 cyl Ford Ranger, no XLT, no chrome package, no sliding window, no CARPET, no pocketed doors, and no polished alloys.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2011-...ht_5201wt_1167

$20,000 + TTL.

WTF? WHY?????

Why is a base model Ranger with ZERO options twenty grand?? Why after financing would I be spending roughly $26,000 for a base model 4 cyl econobox truck with rubber floors?

I cannot be the only one who finds this insane...... I paid $9,999 for my first ranger back in 1997 and it had everything listed above that this doesn't have. I'm not saying the price can't go up, inflation is a given, but the product has to reflect the price. If the price has doubled, the truck still needs to retain all the options. If you told me twenty grand and it had full options, fine. I'd still think it was too much, but fine. However not for a base model truck. Seriously........

thats why the ranger is disappearing. cause the cost is so high its in the same price range as an f150

Re: The prices are ridiculous.

I've decided since I like my 97 body, options, interior, etc.... I'm going to buy a newer one like a 2008 and swap my 97 body onto it. :D Full options. :D

I got rid of a 99 for this 97, I already have driven the boxed frame, a-arms, and 2.5l for several years so I know all about it. They haven't changed it since 1998.

Yes I agree, seems like in this kind of economy everything is going through the roof. I guess thats why Ford didnt need a government bailout

back in the spring/early summer in Minnesota, all ford dealerships were offering (hold steady now)... a 2011 4.0L ranger supercab 4x4 fully loaded for only.......

$18,995. Plus $250 worth of accessories for free.

Bought my '96 XLT new for under $9,000.
15 years later they are more than double that.

Re: The prices are ridiculous.

This is a killer:

First Ranger - Brand new '86, lowest of the low end model (no radio,no antenna, 2.3L 5spd, wall to wall rubber) $6K.

2004 Edge (brand new), 3.0L 5spd, wall to wall rubber, 2din 6 disc changer only $14,500 after $3K rebate from Ford.

Dunno why it's over 20k. Looks like this might be my last Ranger. Hell, the wife and I just bought a Mini Cooper S for a couple grand more than that Ranger...and we get 35 mpg highway with 12 months free Sirius Radio!

Yeah but now they got side airbags, traction & stability control, rear disc brakes. I know that ain't $9,000 worth of crap but they got to pass the costs on ya know.

........

Sounds like the auto industry want makers were able to convince you that YOU DESERVE A NEW TRUCK even though you don't have the money to buy it. All they have to do now is set the hook.
