What do you make of this A/C issue?

Warm at idle and low speeds, cold on the freeway. Don't "guess"
its low on freon please. Lemme know if you'd had a similar issue and perhaps a recharge fixed it. :)

if you let it sit and rev it up to about 2-3k does it get colder?

Yes. However nothing seems to compare to actually driving it at a reasonable speed in terms of "Freezing cold".

It gets colder air while moving? Making it easier to cool the air making the air colder?

Re: What do you make of this A/C issue?

Well it was working like it should until this morning. Most rangers can hang ice off the vents on the freeway and still cool well in traffic. I was warm air in traffic and cold (but not FREEZING) on the freeway. I get condensation on the AC lines under the hood. I can feel a difference turning the regulator over to hot and back to cold on the dash. It is definitely on the cool side so no blend door issues. The AC pump comes on when I turn it on at idle, but I do not hear it cycle. Normally I'd expect it to be on and off as it sat there. It seems like just ON.

Sounds like a weak compressor to me, how many miles are on the truck? Oh and congrats on finally getting the truck you wanted!

Re: What do you make of this A/C issue?

Well hell, according to this waste of $30 my AC is full. Once the gauge is tapped I can't return it. Least of my worries though........ now what? Compressor kicks on when you start the truck and turn the AC on. Blows cool but not cold if in the shade. Under a hot day in the sun it would be blowing warm sitting still.

kinda stupid questions, but just covering the basics:
temp dial all the way cold?
fan speed highest setting?
vent set to max ac?
condensation puddling under truck?
return line hot at the evap coil?

your truck has 2 "radiators"- one is the coolant radiator, the smaller is the A/C "evaporator". this is what takes the heat/humidity out of the air in your cab.
one step of troubleshooting your system is to see if this line that is connected to it is hot. if you are getting cold air then it should be really hot(dont just grab onto it, tap it with the back of your hand).
I would get pics but im at work. if you need a pic i can get you one in an hour or so

i have a weird isssue too.. when its on max ac on the highest setting and i accelerate kinda hard it stops blowing out of the vents and starts to blow out of the defrost vents on the dash by the windshield... but if i stop accelerating so hard it will swith back to the ac vents... anyone had this issue?

Re: What do you make of this A/C issue?

the way the a/c cycle works is it removes hot air from one place and moves it to another. The evaporator (in the dash) evaporates the liquid refridgerant (as it soaks up the heat from the hot air) and turns into a hot vapor before leaving the evaporator. If its not heating up, its not soaking up enough hot air to turn fully into a vapor. Could be because the evap is dirty and/or partially clogged

edit: too slow
