Camburg 5.5 kit with deaver leaf springs question
I had a few questions about the Camburg 5.5 lift. One question is my suspension seems very tight when I drive it I can feel every pot hole and every tiny bump. I asked someone who knew a little more about the kit but he said its suppose to be tight and will handle better off road like this. I was wondering if I should replace the shocks or maybe loosen them up a bit. I also counted how many leaf springs i have and it totaled up to 14, 7 on each side. Let me know

Re: Camburg 5.5 kit with deaver leaf springs question
prerunner kits are stiff because they have to handle the abuse they will go thru, its made for 2 foot drops rather than small potholes where it wont downtravel as much compared to 2 foot drops
this is just out of my ass but it makes sense to me hopefully someone will correct me but imo stiff= better control off road |
Re: Camburg 5.5 kit with deaver leaf springs question
Loosen the shocks and air down the tires 2 to 4 lbs. See how that feels.
Eric is right - you now have a high speed off road banshee!!!!!!! Get Runnin! |
Re: Camburg 5.5 kit with deaver leaf springs question
yes and no on the suspension, usually the entry level kits are a bit softer than the high end kits, did you get the full on long travel extended A arms or no? it can break in some, but probably not a huge amount. also with the regular cab and 4 banger your truck is really light, taking a leaf out in the back will probably help, and it might help level out your truck.
eric too stiff means you will bounce around too much, so stiff isnt always better, unless your name is kyle and you like man meat, then stiff is the only way to go :) |

Re: Camburg 5.5 kit with deaver leaf springs question
first of all, what shocks are you running on the front? if it's the bilsteins, you can't do much. except live with it. airing down the tires 2-4 psi will help you some, i could notice a lost smoother ride on my truck when i did that.
like said the camburg kit is stiff to be able to take the bigger hits offroad. however, having a 4banger and single cab like also said isn't helping much. how new is the kit? the springs will soften up some over the course of their life, the harder they get used, the softer they get. same goes for the rear, what shocks? and do you have any weight in the bed? spare tire, jack, anything? weight helps and again if they're new they need to break in before they get softer. if you absolutely have to remove a leaf, call DEAER since they're the ones who made the springs and know the best way to fiddle with them. i deal with this all day every day at my job, and know the guys at camburg very well, if you have questions feel free to post here or PM me |
Re: Camburg 5.5 kit with deaver leaf springs question
hahah i think im just gonna let him worry about his own man meat lol. But yea i imagine becasue its so stiff that it will bounce around giving it worse handleing. Soon im gonna lower the back and take out a leaf sprng so it looks more like a true prerunner.

It deffinatly sounds like you know what your talking about. yes they are the bilsteins and i was lookinging into getting upgraded ones. And no i dont have the long travel kit I just have the stock 5.5 kit and its about 5 years old about so they should have losened up by now. As for weight in the bed all i got is a huskey tool box and about 10 rockstar cans haha
---------- Wow thats fucken gay well at the least im gonna lvl it out cause it does a small nose dive in the front. |

http://offroadwarehouse.com/products...roductID/51728 in the back, try to mount a spare tire in the bed if you could, towards the tailgate as much as possible, the weight really helps the ride on leaf spring trucks. |
