Plates

Why do people cover there tags up? I just don't get it I work in a LE dispatch so I run tags all day long but I can't look one up just for fun I would lose my job and face criminal charges. But so what if someone sees what state your from? And county identifiers I don't know other states counties and even then that doesn't narrow it down. And litterally anyone driving around can see your tag so why cover it up to take a picture when your doing nothing wrong?

because they are paranoid.

Re: Plates

They are paranoid some one will find a way to run their tag. I have always wondered if they cover them up while driving down public streets?

Re: Plates

There really isn't much info that comes back on a tag anyway. Name Vehicle info (make year model etc.) when it expires and an address. Anybody with a phone book and common knowledge can figure that out.

Re: Plates

Some people just wanna make sure no one will find them off the internet.
when they totally ignore the person in traffic right next to them. who has followed them for the last 6 miles.

People with $3,000 invested in a stereo system probably don't want someone running their license plate and stealing it in the middle of the night. Anyone can fill out a form at the motor vehicle department, pay a ~$20 fee, and have a license plate run.

I don't bother since there is nothing to steal in my truck.

In Kansas you can't it's a violation of privacy. You either have to work at the DMV or be NCIC certified. I cant tell even our motor assist that info because they aren't qualified.

I haven't looked up Kansas DMV info, but in all my many years in that line of work, I've never heard of such a thing. They're public records. I find it unlikely that the DMV will not give you the information if you fill out a form and pay the fee.

It's the identity theft fear basicly. They're unreasonably scared and paranoid because of what I mentioned earlier to be honest about it. When I took the photos of that carshow over the weekend people seemed to not care about a photo of their plates at all. Of course they did have the year on the plates though, but that's a different story.

I don't think that people really care about that to be honest about it. They'd bring back my ranger if it ever got stolen, L.O.L.
