manual clunks while shifting

my 99 with a 2.5 5 speed, 3.73 gears, 92k miles

i notice that most of the time when i shift from 1st to 2nd, theres a clunk sounding from the tranny. my truck is lower miles (92k) and the clutch is still fine. the clunk is when move from 1st to 2nd.

any thoughts? thanks!

Mine does the same thing. Ford tells me its "typical rear end play". I don't believe them.

not too sure on that one. I greased mine and it wasn't the issue though.

can you feel it in the shifter , does it feel like you have to hit the exact RPM to shift?

+1
The guy didn't even drive it.
put it on the lift and said " i don't see anything wrong with it"
I drove him around the block and he said" oh thats typical, I can get my mustang to do that all the time"

Same here.
1-2 is the worst. I have had people tell me numerous things, the issue seems relevant to what they are saying. so I try it and get no results.

Trans mount
slip yoke
u-joints
rear end fluid
suspension loose
engine mount
last thing i haven't check because i don't know how: rear end backlash

what a slip yoke does is allows the driveshaft to become longer/shorter as the rear suspension goes through its travel
