*** the official fishing thread***

Post any tips, tricks, advice, or general info you may know. I know that I am a beginner fisherman, and would like to see this thread grow.

what are you fishin for? bass, muskie, pike, perch, walleye?

First and foremost, make sure you have plenty of beer, cigarettes/ chew and bait. A comfortable chair in the shade helps.. tackle box and lures are a plus as well. Boats are nice but not necessary.

Most importantly, NEVER bring your woman.. there is a chance she may like it andthen you'll never get away. AND she'll try to drink your beer.

Always remember, a bad day on the lake is better than a good day anywhere else. Unless anywhere else is a stripclub.

well you say your fishing for anything hmmm...well not sure if your familiar with a spinning real or just the push buttons ha, whatever suits you, get a pack of bobbers some 10lb flourocarbon line(clearer so the fish wont see it) and size like 4 or 5 hooks nothing to big and just start of with worms, its as basic as i can get. But when you start to bass fish i would just use that same like a bigger hook like a size 2 and weedless hook it so you dont get hung as much meaning start with the worm(soft plastic worm such as Yum, Gary Yamamota etc, dont buy anything to bright colors get naturual, MATCH YOUR BAIT COLOR WITH THE WATER,) start with the worm belly side hook it barely through the take the hook out the other side run it up onto the line, then take the other loose part and hook it so the point and barb on the hook are inside the worm, you may think this will keep the fish from staying on but when pressure is applied it slides up the line and gets hooked. Now for catfish- fairly simple as well, EXCEPT i suggest thicker more durable line such as 25-30 lb...stay away from braided lines...just take you a weight 3/4 ounce id say get it on there then take about the same size #2 hook probably bigger and get chicken livers, cat fish love me......this is as basic as i can get. Any questions just ask away!

Im a big fan of the newer sufix siege line. The line has no memory so when you.cast it lays flat all the time instead of staying spooled on the water

Get a can of whole kernel corn and a smaller hook. Put 1 or 2 pieces on the hook and crappie, perch and croaker will eat that shit up.

for braided line, i like power pro. for fluorocarbon, i like berkely 100% fluorocarbon. i have all of my rods strung up with different tests of power pro with a 6-8 foot fluorocarbon leader. i fish mainly for bass though

for trout i troll with Bingo Bugs (very hard to find lol i use some that are 20 years old, dad bougth liek 20 when he found out someone was making them for a short time last year) they work VERY well on cold mountain lakes

Popgear flashers, i prefer diamond style over willow, and then a bingo bug/fly/worms/pistol pete or minnows 2 feet away from the pop gear

Bass i use Plastic worms, usually ones lined with salt! some people say eccentric colors work best, but not for me....blue,white glitter or green work best

----------

i fly fish on a kayak occasionally but im not very good at it especially since my shallow spot no longer exists lol

----------

anyone fly fish for bass? ALWAYS wanted to try but dont know how to approach that

Its funny this thread came up. Last night I went to a Ducks Unlimited dinner and I won a really nice bait-casting rod and reel setup. Its a Quantum reel with a Carrot Stix rod. Now Ive been fishing my entire life but Im only experienced with spinning reels and cane poles so Ive got no idea how this bait-casting reel works. (ive wanted one for years though) Ive heard they are tricky to use but are awesome when they are mastered. I was casting around my backyard with it today and I did ok but man these things like to birds nest like crazy! Any pointers from the fishing pro's here?

oh yeah, a pic of the stuff I won, pretty sweet haul!

Also, how the hell is there a fishing thread and Dixie has not posted in it? lol
