Air bag light and cruise dont work
 

My air bag light came on a couple days ago and now my cruise dont work and either does my horn or the lights on my steering wheel. I think its just a connection issue but im not sure. my wipers and blinker works just fine.

i have an 02 4.0 XLT

I am not savvy in electrical but perhaps a break somewhere in your steering column could be the culprit

clock spring. it controls everything you mentioned that doesn't work. air bag, cruise and horn. did you hear anything or feel anything weird in your steering wheel? to confirm, what code is flashing for the airbag?

My steering wheel don't sound different. And I don't know what the code is. I don't have a code reader. So how do I fix this clock spring??

count how many times the airbag light flashes. it will flash a couple times, short pause, flash again, long pause and repeat. that's the code. it will be a 2 digit number.

as for replacing the clock spring, disconnect battery, remove airbag from the steering wheel, unhook wiring, remove steering wheel, and there is the clock spring. should take 20 minutes if you have the right tools. you will need a puller to get the wheel off.

alright. i found out my dad should have all the tools i need but i have no clue how to start or anything. is there a how to on this?? i looked but couldnt find anything.

it's as easy as that. pop the caps off on the steering wheel, i think it's an 8mm socket to get the air bag out, then a t-50 torx bit for the steering wheel, and then a puller. then the clock spring can be taken out by unclipping two clips i think.

i havent taking my steering wheel apart yet. plannin on it tonight. but i looked for a new clock spring and oreilleys, napa, autozone. none of them have it. am i going to have to go to a dealer to raped for it??

i broke mine one day and bought a replacement off ebay. wasn't very much. just make sure they are new so that they are already centered and ready to install.

well i finally got around to taking care of this BUT i cant get the steering wheel off. i took on the one bolt in the middle and put a puller on it but it wouldnt budge. i dont want to put to much force on it and break the steering wheel. any suggestions??

it takes a lot of force to get it off the first time. loosen the bolt up half way, put the puller back on and put some tension on the puller. take a hammer and tap the inside of the wheel. that may help as well. it'll feel like it's not coming off, them it will suddenly "pop".
