Electrical Problems Running Battery Down?
Hello,
I've been having problems with my battery running down for some time. First I thought it was the radio, so I took out the fuse that runs the radio. That helped for a while. Then one day my tail lights, dash lights, and speedometer went out. When I replaced fuse 25 the battery would always run down in a matter of minutes. I have to start the motor and then put in the fuse. The battery stays charged up when the motor is running. If I put in fuse 25 with the truck turned off the daytime running lights come on even though the motor is off. When fuse 25 is in and the door ajar light stays on all the time and the interior light stays on all the time. So far I have checked the light switch and it looks like it is still good. My alternator is good, just to eliminate a few things. Can anybody help me with this? |
Re: Electrical Problems Running Battery Down?
Did you lube the door latches so the door ajar light goes off? Mine did that along with the dome light remaining on till I lubed the latches, closed the door hard a few times. Try that or moving the latches themselves to make it close tighter. I didn't know 99's have daytime running lights though, so check your relays under the hood and your headlight switches

Yes, they have been lubed several times recently. I don't think that is the problem.

Looks like you have a short to power with the interior light circuit. Once the fuse is popped in the circuit is complete and it is getting power somewhere else instead of the switch.
Check the wiring from the switch and see if any of them come in contact with another. |

UPDATE: I guess the door ajar light probably is related to what Clinton said it was. It turns off now.

Re: Electrical Problems Running Battery Down?
I took my truck to a mechanic and he said I should get a sensor box to test in the truck to see if my sensor had burned out or got messed up. I borrowed one out of my brother's truck and it didn't change anything ( I am talking about the sensor behind the radio, to the left ). I also took my brother's light switch out and tested it, just to get that offf my mind and it's not that either. What next? The ignition switch?

Re: Electrical Problems Running Battery Down?
Well there is no such thing as a "sensor box". Are you saying your swapped the GEM module from another truck into yours?? That's a new one. What light switch did you change??
