Home project #2: Firewood stockpile

I got a new toy a few months ago, figured I would cut, split my own firewood to save money. The logs I get arent seasoned well, but it only takes a few months to season once they are split.

This is the new toy

First delivery of wood, After I cut it

Split pile #1 of this delivery

Of course I failed to take a picture of the second pile after it was all split.

Part #2, Build wood racks. Part of the second pile is in this shot. This part of my yard used to be trees and a dog run from a previous owner, I started clearing this 3 years ago and this is the first year I can use it for the firewood!

Stacking the wood:

Part #3, build a base to the tree for another row and stack

The wood racks and wood stacking was done in 2 days (thank god it went quick) I still have 3/4 of pile #1 to stack and another load already cut waiting to be split. More wood racks to come along with more splitting and stacking!

Thats the way to do it. I cut firewood on weekends to sell and its really not bad when you have a splitter :) Thats gonna be nice and ready in a few months.

Thanks man. I think the hardest thing is splitting the logs that are 2-3 feet in diameter. Those things are a bitch to move!

Yeah my friend found some old things that look like giant cat claws from a yard sale a few years ago. Were used to move giant blocks of ice for an ice machine. They worked wonderful till we lost them.

I have tin for roofing I cover it with now. Once its seasoned, I have a wood bin I built to store it in the winter. I just have to tar paper and shingle the roof and I'm set

They weren't really tongs. Handle with long claws. They fell outta the truck one weekend driving back to town. Went a ways out a dirt road. Didn't notice they were gone till the next weekend. Went back and couldn't find them.
