Pics! Ugly sun of a gun. I have the block, crank, complete heads, pistons and rods, and lifters.

looks like you've got a pretty decent looking motor there. If you don't mind me asking, what did it cost you for that motor?

I know the feeling. everytime I go to do a project something usually happens and throws a monkey wrench into the works. This last time it was tornados. The time before that I hit a deer on the way to buy a motor for my swap.

Ya, I have connections up here. It's a who-ya-know world. I got the while shebang for $150 cash. It's out of a 72 Maverick.

Well I hope you have better luck next time man! Hopefully I can provide a good write-up.

Kool thanks. I haven't abandoned the project. It's been put on hold for the moment until I can find another steel shop. That's a sweet deal for that motor. Is my imagination or is the "old school" version of the 302 getting harder and harder to find? The new 5.0 Cyotoe sounds pretty damn sweet but it's a little bit too expensive for me.

They're harder to find then 10 years ago, but nowadays they sell good aftermarket blocks at good prices. ($400 for a new machined short block, and they're much stronger. I'm just a broke mo-fo, haha)

Me too man. It's hard to find a 302 block in decent shape where I've been looking that is. I've got a few websites and places I can check if need be. You're right about that. 10 or 13 years ago it was extremely easy to find a 302 because they were still a main production engine up until 2001. The new 5.0 has only been around for not quite a year and is untested in terms of pistons, cams, etc IMO.

Little Blue 05-13-2011 08:52 AM

Ya, and as an update, I'm having a custom cam made and getting the crank ground an straightened. I also work at a chrome shop (industrial) so I'll be having everything (crank and cam fits) ground undersized and plate them back to size. Industrial chrome is very hard and resists wear. I'll be taking pics too.

good luck with the swap, ive heard theyre quite complicated and the wiring harness is a bitch, but the noise that motor makes when it fires up will all be worth it!
