1996 Ranger 2.3L Fluids

Hey all. I've got an XLT 2.3L and I'm changing all the fluids out today. I drained the tranny and diff and noticed on my magnetic plugs that there was a metallic grease/sludge built up. This bad boy has ~310k miles on it. The trans fluid was a dark almost black with a tint of red, and the gear oil was dark yellow. I was only concerned about the grease/sludge. How long do you suppose it's been since these fluids were changed???

I was just wondering because I'm trying to take a 2,500 mile trip with it. The overall functionality of the truck is great. Only have a P0401 code which i'm not too worried about, since I've changed all EGR sensors and related parts. This truck has been very taken care of before I got it. Any recommendations before I take this long trip with my truck?

Yes enjoy and don't worry. Your truck is in no worse shape for changing the fluids and you found what you should of found for fluids that weren't changed regularly.
