94 2.3 ranger

My girls truck snapped a timing belt and by accident I broke the cam sensor pulling the harmonic balancer. I changed the sensor and put a new timing belt but no spark to either side and no pulse to the injector. The check engine light comes on while cranking. Any input.

Thanx in advanced

This motor came from the engine machinist that rebuilt it and it was on tdc before cranking. Also the timing belt is moving forward on the crank and cam by about 1/8 " . any input on what is causing that?

You had it rebuilt after you broke the belt?If all you did was change the sensor,I would check and make sure it is not rubbing or got hit putting it in.If that is all you changed

I had to put my timing belt on my 94 2.3 off by one tooth because everytime I timed it and cranked it, it was off by one tooth. So I offset one tooth and when I cranked it, it was dead on time.

Re: 94 2.3 ranger

The motor had 220k of hard tweaker miles on it and bad compression. It came back from the engine shop on tdc. I didn't bump anything putting the motor except the the a/c condenser lightly. The belt does slip forward though. This is a very reputable shop that I took it to. I had this issue before I rebuilt the motor. I will double check the timing. I am still thinking this belt slipping forward could be a problem i guess when I getting some spark Ill find out

Re: 94 2.3 ranger

Whenyou say belt slipping do you mean on the pulley or is the pulley slipping also?

TDC on the compression stroke or exhaust stroke?

Re: 94 2.3 ranger

It was slipping on the timing belt cam sprocket. I am not sure about compression or exhaust. Isn't it suppose to be on the compression stroke?

Re: 94 2.3 ranger

Supposed to be on compression (easy to check, rotate the motor with your finger in the spark plug hole, when air rushes out/pushes finger out your heading towards compression TDC)

If the timing is right. Where do I go from here to find some spark. ICM then the coil pack?

Re: 94 2.3 ranger

Start simple. Pull a plug wire off a plug, lay a screw driver in it touching ground. Crank it and look for spark.

IF there is spark your good. IF not go backwards. Pull the primary wire and do the same thing. IF no spark check the two wires to the coil with key turned all the way on (like normal driving) and you should have voltage. IF no voltage go ICM

Re: 94 2.3 ranger

no pip signal. where would that be? no pulse to injector and no spark 12v to coils and 12 volts to the ICM any more suggestions? When cranking the timing belt is slipping forward on pulleys Is that because I don't have the front cover on?

Re: 94 2.3 ranger

Timing belt should not slip at all. You need to retime and check the tightner.

Re: 94 2.3 ranger

secondary problem with the belt. Still trying to get a pulse or a spark

Re: 94 2.3 ranger

Sorry no cam turning = no pulse = no spark. Good luck!!
