DIY Bed Liners?
Hey everyone,
I need some advice for a DIY roll on bed liner for my truck. I want to do one this summer but I don't know what brand to choose. Has anyone heard anything good/bad either way on certain known brands. Ones I'm looking at include Herculiner and Duralast thanks |
Re: DIY Bed Liners?
You will hear mixed opinions on DIY liners. Only thing I can say is I did the herculiner. I love it man, it's alot of prep work but for less than 100.00...You can't go wrong. This is the outcome of mine

I figured as much, but yours looks great! How many coats did you use?

Re: DIY Bed Liners?
Thanks dude. You only have to do 2. One light base coat then a 2nd hevy coat. I had a ton left over when I was done

Anytime. Just dont forget the Xylene and do it on a nice warm day and start early. It takes 4 hours between coats to dry

I just scuffed the paint with the provided pad, Xylened the whole thing, taped and papered everything and the drain holes...got plugged by the herculiner. I forgot about them and didnt notice until I saw a few drips in the driveway lol

Sand the surface until you scratch the clear coat, and then like Clinton said xylene the whole thing. A friend of mine said he took his air compressor with a spray chuck on it and sprayed it out before the xylene and there wasn't much left. You can also get the Herculiner in red, gray and white. I'm planning on doing this to the Ranger eventually as well as the body line down and the rear bumper on the Chevy. Most of the people who have had problems with chipping and flaking did not clean the surface properly or even scuff up the bed.
Clinton, has it faded at all? Herculiner also has a product that is supposed to be some kind of UV protection for ALL bed liners. |
Re: DIY Bed Liners?
Cool. The trucks at work have sprayed on bedliner and the stuff does take a beating. My ranger has a plastic one right now that I took out last year to clean under and was surprised to see the bed in real good shape. I would like a sprayon to eliminate the dirt and rust issues. You opened the drains? I squirted some motoroil in them to counter some rust in the support.

Re: DIY Bed Liners?
I used Rustoleum on the lower half of the truck and grill and plan to use Herculiner for the bed much tougher stuff and it will fade though, haven't tried the UV stuff though might help. the Rustoleum gives a nice look for other parts of the truck and is not a very rough texture. I also heard you can use armorall on it which I have tried and seems to work good for the lower half of the truck that has been bedlined.

Re: DIY Bed Liners?
You can also use Armorall on bed liner like LineX or Herculiner, but the roughness tears up the wipes (if that's your preferred method). Doesn't last too long, though.
