3.0 noise issues

2 noises that my ranger always makes.

-1 is when i start it up and it is cold, my ranger has really bad piston slap, but it goes away when it is warmed up. should i treat this as an issue or just not worry about it?

-2 is pinging. I know these rangers are known for having spark knock or pinging. Mine is so bad and its getting really irritating. i know that it is not good for an engine and id really like it to stop. Any ideas on why the Vulcans do this so much and how to stop it? :banghead:

Re: 3.0 noise issues

I know the 4 liters alot better, but as far as piston slap is concerned, I don't think its a big deal. I remember seeing something from Ford that the pushrod 4.0s sometimes had it at startup, and it went away after a few minutes. It said it wouldn't harm the engine in the long run, and is just noisy. Its probably the same for your engine.

pinging is usually from carbon build up, maybe you can try doing a seafoam cleaning or something along those lines. hopefully some vulcan-knowledgeable people will chime in here too.

Re: 3.0 noise issues

Yea, im not worried about it. Every 3.0 ranger that anyone that i have ever known has had, has been beaten and just kept going. Mine has 145k on it right now, i just want to make sure it gets to 200k like i see a lot of them doing. I go to UTI and the sell this stuff called Run-Rite, which does the same thing as seafoam, and it didnt make a difference, so im just gonna keep driving and turn up the radio :driver:
