The mid 80's diesel...

I wonder if anyone remembers the mid 1980's 4 cylinder diesel engines that Ford only kept for a couple of years? I found the turbocharger, and exhaust manifolds at LMC Truck but haven't seen one of those Rangers for sale anywhere.

yes, I remmeber them (I was 18-19 at the time)
they seemed way underpowered and only came in 4x2.
I believe they were available from 1985-1986.

I was kindly thinking that those were the years but wasn't sure. And I thought I was old, L.O.L. I now know I'm not only one.

Yes they made first gen rangers in diesels from 1985 to 1986. They should've kept them and updated them as needed.

There was a local classified add in November that a guy had an 86 XLT 4X4 that had a factory diesel in it. He actually sold it for $20,000, yes $20,000.

Oh yeah, wish mine had it.

Yeah, I hear the 2.3L Turbo Diesel was way underpowered but pop some mods on it and that baby will pour black smoke on them little highschool boys in their BIG Diesel trucks that their mommy and daddy bought for them.

Maybe I can find one and swap it in since the block is the same I think.

Yes they did exist, from what I researched, they first used Mazda-Perkins 2.2L diesels, then later used a Mitsubishi 2.3L turbo diesel. they are very rare, I really want one lol

2.2
2.3
I think they made around 50hp, and would hit 60 after 20 seconds, but still, they must be great on MPG.

----------

yeah they weren't fast:p
