Running boards

Do you think this Ranger with stock size wheels and tires needs running boards. My grandfather put them on there when he bought it new and I have never thought much of them. If I take them off I can save some weight. By the way I wonder how much they weigh?

I've got some on my 2002, I like them. But they are getting some rust on them. No sure if I should take them off or not.

Re: Running boards

odd... when I purchased my '01 edge, Nerf bars (the correct term) were factory on ALL edges.
so, I wonder why your Grandpa had to install aftermarket nerf bars.
anuways, as for your question, yes, remove them. I removed mine and it looks a lot better and you'l lose around 40lbs of weight

I am almost positive he said he bought them after market. They are westin.

Re: Running boards

I can tell they are not factory, factory ones have the "riibbed plastic moulding" along the entire length of the nerf bar, on top.

I'd keep the step bars depending what the condioton they are in take them off and clean them up and re paint them. My Ranger does not have step bars and the GF has trouble getting in and out of my Ranger

My GF uses it so I leave them on.

Take them off. I don't like the looks of the aftermarket ones, the only ones that I think look good are the factory ones.

Re: Running boards

itook my factory ones off long ago, and just like a month or so ago put them back on. Probably just the fact that it was something new to my eyes made me like them. Plus now i got the 3 inch body lift and actually find myself using them where as before i tended to only bang my shins on them.

I've got a set like that, like the look and stops parking lot door dents but the are worthless as a step and just get dirt on the back of my pants leg getting out.

Re: Running boards

looks like the exact same bars my grandfather had put on my truck when it was new so he could get in and out.... i took 'em off, mostly because they were mounted real shoddy and starting to rust though..... that and i wailed a stump with one and broke the mount, lol.... but the ones on your truck look like their in good condition, actually they look real nice on that truck. i would leave 'em untill they get crappy looking ( seems like they all do eventually...)
