Muffler swap on '09 FX4 - 2" or 2.25"?
I'm looking into replacing my stock muffler with something that has a little more growl and have been eyeing the Flowmaster 40 as it's locally available. I know nothing about mufflers and this is really my first venture into the world of exhaust systems. The Flowmaster website says that the compatible muffler with my '09 FX4 is 2", but I'm also reading from forums that it may be 2.25"?
Any insight? How much should I expect to pay someone to install this for me? |

I'd advise against Flowmaster for many reasons, but you need to pick an exhaust based on the sound you want; youtube is your best bet for sound clips. I'd highly recommend a Thrush muffler though.
Piping should be 2.25", I can't see any V6 using under 2.25" piping. Installing just a muffler by itself is easy if its just a drop in. |

Going back to the size, would this one be suitable, or is the intake or outake offset? Man, I should just crawl under my truck and see what it has, hah hah. |

I dislike Flowmaster's design in creating their mufflers with baffles. I have seen dyno results of fbodies where flowmasters will make less hp than other brands by a decent amount because of the baffles. Depending on the application, they usually are not that loud when the rest of the car has stock manifolds, cats and no mandrel piping. Plus, i think they are so overplayed; it seems every v8 truck and muscle car has a Flowmaster on it.
Best way to see what will fit is to go look lol. The exhaust on my truck has an offset outlet, but the PO did put an aftermarket muffler on. You can probably fit any muffler you want in there, with just a little fab work. AutoAnything has some Flowmasters and other brands, and their shipping is free: http://www.autoanything.com/exhausts...0A50460A1.aspx |
