i'm willing to bet if you'd search here, or on google, you'd have found the answer to your question. i had jba headers on my truck and lost low end torque so i went back to stock

For the amount of money you spend on headers, no it's not enough of a gain to make it worth your while. A nice sounding muffler on the other hand is priceless, IMO.

He's right, save the cash and get a muffler if it's sound you want. Headers and cat bac crap doesn't give you much in performance or savings in gas. For what you have to pay you would have to drive it for 10 years to break even. End of story.

Im getting my exhaust on friday the guy recommenced 2.5" exhaust as you will gain some performance and not lose torque, im not changing the mufflers tho just getting a wider pipe dont know if that helps at all

if you pay 7k for that lil 4.6, you are spending wayyyyy too much. I'll get you a LS1 5.7 or LS2 6.0 for uner $4k, and some of those include trans

well if i bought one it would be brand new i was trying to avoid someone else's problems with a previously driven motor. also the new (since '09 i believe.. maybe '10) puts out around 300hp and still gets high 20's city mpg. im sure its gonna drop a little when it goes into the ranger but i dont know, i still have a lot of homework to do about it. im still paying the damn thing off anyway aha. how horrible would the LS1 be on gas..?

Re: do headers & exhaust system really even help a 3.0 much?

I get 28 highway with my LS1, and its a 5.7L with 350 hp stock. The 6.0 LS2 will be slightly less mpg, mid 20's, but 400 hp stock. Old school OHV pushrod engine, much lighter and smaller than all these new SOHC, DOHC engines; even though the LS series always has very big displacement. I see rolling chasis ls1 vettes & Fbods, and even some LS2 vettes being sold for like $6000; and that all includes engine, trans, rear diff, etc. Most engines that are pulled out of cars and being sold are perfectly fine, and they can be cheap; 2002 C5 vette LS1 with 33k miles on it for $2500; includes engine harness and all that. But yeah, id get the Ranger paid off first lolol.
