Fuel injection to Cabruretor

where can I find a kit (?) to change my 2.9 from fool injected to carburetion? If no kit available who or where can I find parts to convert it.

Re: Fuel injection to Cabruretor

you could always get a carbed 2.8 from an 85 or older ranger or BII. just curious as to why you would want to do that though? the only thing that 2.9 has going for it is the EFI.

So, the 2.9 is a bad engine?

Nothing out there can readily convert your EFI to carburetor. 2.8L intake would not work. Not to say that it can't be done, but that it just wouldn't be very easy. You'd have to make an adapter for the carb itself to the 2.9L lower and you would have to make a vacuum advance dist from a 2.8L work in a 2.9L. GM HEI ignition module I think would be appropriate here over the duraspark II box, but that's your call. I am running a GM HEI with my 302 over the duraspark box with my old 2.9L TFI coil.

I'd love to have another 2.9L and infinite funds to do everything that people say can't be done. It can, just not easy or in most cases not practical.

ive personally never heard of it being done but that doesnt mean it hasnt or it would be impossible. that would be a cool swap though.

I have a "flattie" sitting on a stand. Been thinking about the swap a long time. May be time to do it .

I know this is an ancient thread, but, the idea of a flathead ranger sounds kinda cool.

It is totally impractical seeing as 80 year old engine designs aren't gonna gain you any performance and you could surely trade a running flathear for a boxcar full of 302s, but, you sure as hell would have the only one on the block. Most likely the only one in the state.

As to your original question, yes, I think it is a good idea to drop a carb under the hood, so long as it has a 302 hanging beneath it!

Sounds like you have a good running 2.9. Why muck it up?

Love your sig, btw.
