Ok well Ive had this truck for a good while and getting rid of it is not an option its part of my family but i really wanted to make it into a 4x4 i didnt know if i could just find a 99 ranger 4x4 junker and use the front end but I dont know anything on what to get except ill need a transfer case possibly a new transmission and front differential but besides that i dont know anything. please help :D and thanks!

Thats a far way man, unless its the Dual Sport, your gonna have to change your front suspension also. Theres alot into doing a 4x4 conversion, put a locker in it and be done best way to get 4x4 output without the full conversion.

But welcome fellow Mazda owner

a good project would be taking your 3.0L and adding a 2 to the end (302) ;)

Re: Mazda B3000 2x4 to 4x4?

As was said, the suspension is ENTIRELY different at the front. 4x4's, Dual Sports, Edge Rangers, and 06+ Sport Rangers have torsion bars. 4x2 Mazdas, and 4x2 Rangers without the Edge or Sport package are coil sprung. If your truck is coil sprung, then you do not have the necessary mounting points to bolt in the front D35. This is an easy swap if your truck is a Dual Sport, but if not, you're looking at a frame swap to gain 4x4.

Lol well until I look into it more I believe I'm sticking with 2wd for now and getting a suspension lift make things a little easier for now until I have more time and money. Thanks guys

I also have a 1999 mazda b3000 dual sport. This was my uncles truck that passed away. It does have a sentimental value too it and i have no money in it.... What all would i need to change this from a 2x4 to a 4x4. I am buying a new truck this next year and i just want to convert this mazda just for hunting purposes.

Parts List

-Transmission (obviously 4x4)
-Transfer case
-D35 IFS front axle(w/ matching gears)
-Front driveshaft to match transfer case flange
-Floor shifter assembly (cage, shift lever, floor plate, etc.)
-4x4 steering knuckles

Of course you will need to buy new stuff like CV axles, bearing assemblies, and brake rotors.

There are some things that are year dependent, like the size of the brakes, and whether you want PVH hubs which suck (but can be used to convert to aftermarket lockout hubs). Othwerwise you'll have a live axle setup that always spins like every other 01+ Ranger.

And then most importantly, there is the third mounting bracket for the front axle that supports the pinion side of the differential. Some trucks have it already on the frame, most trucks do not. You will need to weld a bracket to the frame to support the rear of the diff. When you weld this bracket to the frame, you have to make sure you set the pinion angle correctly or else you'll have some less than good vibrations.

I'm probably forgetting a few things, but that's the gist of it. This topic has been beaten to death, so you're not going to get much help on it. Do some more research to make sure you really understand what you're getting into. It's not complicated, but it's not something everybody should go through with.

thank you fordzilla i really appreciate your response. not something i have fully decided to do yet but not something i am looking to do in a hurry right now i just drive it to woods and drive around. will prob put a wench on the front for a while and over a year or so get parts here and there to do it. i see supposedly the truck is already set up like a 4x4 minus it just not being one... so far as the front suspension and clearance and skid plates.
