Front end conversion??

I'm new to the forum and I searched but didnt find anything but I was wondering if you could take the front end from a 1995 Ranger and convert it with the newer front end?

greyghost 09-13-2009 09:13 PM

someone can correct me if i'm wrong. as far as i've read on other ranger forums all you need to do is remove your headlights, and turn/side marker lights out. then replace the header panel behind the lights attached to the core support with one from a newer year for example a 2004.then you use the lights from that year truck. take note that you will need a newer hood to make this swap work as the pre 2003 hoods are flat and the 2004 to present have the curved lip on the front. if this sounds confusing maybe someone could explain it better...

welcome to frf hope you enjoy your stay.............................................. ...................................

2001-2009 headlights are all the same so are the side marker lights

2001-2003 hoods will only work with 2001-2003 grilles and same with 2004 and up

I can give more detials tonight after I get home from work

I was wondering about the side markers. If they're not exactly the same shape, but this is still do-able, I'd assume you'd need fenders as well.

Okay since you have a 3rd gen ranger you will need to on the radiator core support(drill out spot welds, replace with 98+ core support, weld back on), frame horns is a weld in deal, after that it's fenders, hood, and the normal stuff like header panel, headlights marker lights you also need the clips that hold the headlights in place 2 per side

Here is a deal on ebay for some of the stuff
01-03 FORD RANGER BLAK GRILLE HEADLIGHT HEADER PANEL

Comes with everything for the front just have to find fenders and hood then

blueovelboy 09-18-2009 10:40 PM

dose the hood use the same type of latch or dose that change? was looking in to doing some thing like the f350s front end where it sAY supper duty

98blownranger 09-19-2009 05:42 AM

you will have to make you own front bumper mounts

catoodubhagain 09-22-2009 01:20 AM

I have a 97 ranger, I want to know if I can just replace the hood with a 4th generation that has the curve upwards and then just replace the grill piece with one that curves upwards. Is it doable without drilling?

93-97 Rangers will NOT convert to a 98+ anything. You can NOT just change the core support as previously stated. I tried this conversion after reading this post and found it is a completly different shape. Looks the same but isn't when it comes down to it. Radiators have different mounting position as well. Also the fender mounting bolts do NOT line up. This is a very complicated conversion and would not attempt it, I did and was pretty freakin pissed off when nothing just converts over as said before.

I tried to convert my 96 to 98+ parts and it is not worth the hassle with how cheap a 98+ ranger costs.

I converted the front of my 2000 to a 08 edge front clip and that is a simple bolt on change over.

What all did u buy

I have seen a 94 ranger changed over to a 01-03 front end before

And there is no 08 edge

ford2581 11-03-2009 10:14 PM

I got fenders, and the front rad support off a 99.

My conversion clip is all over the place. The front bumper is off an 07, the hood is off an 08, and the grill and header panel are off an 06.

And so people know the left hood hinge is different when changing to the 04+ hoods.

Well there you got you got pieces from different year trucks 2001-2003 are complete opposites of 2004-2009 1998-2000 are totally different than 2001-2009

98+ frames and front end inner pieces are the same. The pics you are showing me don't show any detail of how they got the core support to fit, there is a lot of fab work to actually get it to fit properly. I can show you pictures of mine with the 99 support in.

My front end is a direct bolt on to 98+ trucks.
