engine swap

just curious why ppl do a 5.0 swap when the 4.6 marauder engine puts out more power and torque and has newer technology?

Re: engine swap

to much modification to make it fit, 4.6 is way to wide, with a small heater box mod, the 5.0 fits, and companies make parts to fit. motor mounts and so...

Re: engine swap

the marauder engine will fit under the hood easily

----------

and i mean ppl are after power afterall why not go all out and throw it in, it would dominate a 5.0 which is technically a 4.9 but ford rounded up

Re: engine swap

Theres at least one guy that did it...

Re: engine swap

heres a older ranger with the 95 crown vic engine, the 03-04 marauder engine is more powerful for sure and look at the space around the engine bay.

----------

hell heres a 6.9 cummins diesel in a ranger

when was the last time you saw a mercury marauder in a junkyard with a decent engine? secondly, it takes WAY more work than you think to put one in a ranger... yes, it will fit.. but the 4.6 is too wide unless you're tubbing out the whole front end.

Re: engine swap

no i havent tried im not that handy but i know it'd fit with custom motor mounts and all that. im just shocked that ppl would pass up on that when they put the 5.0 in for power.
i never said itd be a piece of cake but doing a upgrade on a engine swap in general isnt easy especially if its something that wasnt an option for the specific vehicle

----------

and you dont need to go to a junkyard to get one, you can order em online or from a napa/advanced/autozone only problem with that is theyd be more pricey but theyd be new and come with the guarantee

Re: engine swap

the 2 main reasons are that the marauder 4.6 (DOHC) is not near as plentiful as a 5.0 or regular 4.6 (SOHC) and the 5.0 is much easier to swap because the DOHC 4.6 is HUGE, not to mention the 5.0's are cheaper to build. you can get more HP from the modular V8 but will cost you alot more than a built 5.0.

ps. moved this to the right section.

Re: engine swap

thanks i wasnt sure what section to put it in exactly lol. but if you add a supercharger to the 4.6 it will demolish cars

Re: engine swap

Cost is major. Hard to find a dohc 4.6 and working on them is pretty expensive.
although a stock dohc 4.6 puts out ton more power than a 5.0, guys can wrench on a 5.0 as its like any other pushrod engine...the 4.6 is a little more complicated..

Also, most people that do the 5.0 are big 4wd guys, and they want the power toward the bottom end, that is where a 5.0 makes it, whereas a 4.6 makes it toward the upper end.

You might want to reconsider this. How much does it take to make 300+hp out of a 5.0? What about from a 4.6?.....

Re: engine swap

im not gonna do it lol i only have 45k miles on my truck but in the future id love to do that or even drop a diesel in it.
im pretty sure all youd need to do to a 4.6 would be is add a supercharger and youd be close to if not already at 300 hp. the 4.6 came with i believe 260 horses and the 45.0 came with only 230

Re: engine swap

You need to relook up your numbers bro.
there is a difference between sohc and dohc 4.6 engines.

and by the time (if you ever do), swap an engine, who knows what will be out there drop in your ranger.

brett20 01-12-2011 02:45 PM

Re: engine swap

i know my numbers arent exact but me and my bud was talking bout it last night and thats what we guessed. but the engines we were talking bout was the 95 stang and a 03 marauder
and true true. i might not even do the engine swap when needed id love to and make the truck a total sleeper but by time i need a new engine ill prob have a 250 or possibly even a 350 turbo diesel

You can get 300+ hp from a set of aftermarket heads on a stock 5.0L HO engine. They run what ~ $1,500, plus throw in a set of 1.7x roller rockers. Big bang for the buck for sure. Wish I would have went for AFRs instead of messing around with GT40s.

Re: engine swap

5.0 are just about bolt in with the right parts plus ther is a hole bunch of aftermarket parts for the 5.0 thanks to the mustang the 4.6 is to expinsif to install and to upgrade in my opion my 5.0 shuld be around 399hp when i get done with its upgrades and its only costing around 1500.00
