Find a truck same year as yours pull engine computer and wiring harness out make sure that it comes from a 2wd also make sure transmission is the same auto or manual
|
What about the radiator? Does that matter or are they the same for the 3.0/4.0?
|
Ya swap that also
|
How do I know it will fit?
|
Bcause your pulling it out of the same truck. . .
|
3.0 and 4.0 are damn near the same size and they are built on the same platform (frame) so it will fit

Not real fimilar with PATS, would he run into an issue with this using his steering column?

I don't believe he would run into issues with the pats

I thought it worked by the computer sending out an RF signal to the transponder in the key, then the key sent back a unique key for the engine to run. It just doesn't seem like it would work since the key wouldn't send back the right unique signal to the 4.0L computer. But there is probably some way to bypass PATS entirely, or I suppose swapping the steering column would probably work(?).

Sorry to bring up an old topic, Bu you guys never told me how
much it would cost. And if what PsychoPete is saying is true would I just be better off selling mine and getting a 4.0? |
Cost depends on how much you get everything for. You could get a wreck for $500 to about $2000 depending on the year and condition of everything. Also remember you would need time to do this.

Well Yeah. Of course.

ive got a 2000 truck and put a 1998 4.0 ohv in place of the 3.0. all it really takes is time.
make sure you have the motor mounts. gotta have the 4.0 tranny too. the tranny crossmember is the same. a/c lines run different on the 3.0 and 4.0 ohv change the fuel pump too. you can get away with the 3.0 pump but it will run lean. |
