Timing Chain

What mileage should I do the timing chain at?

I'm at 120k right now, should I have it done around 150k?

Also, I'm a noob to the ranger. What does the 3.0 need besides normal oil changes, air filters, plugs, etc. to keep it running for years to come?

Re: Timing Chain

Is there a specific problem that the truck is exhibiting that makes you suspect the timing chain? I can't remember if the 3.0 is an interference engine, but if it is, you will definitely want to replace the chain and gear set before it goes out.

As for other things to watch out for on the 3.0, the cam sync/ cam position sensor is a big one. They both need the be closely monitored as they are prone to premature failure, although you've gotten pretty far along without a problem i'm assuming. Either way, it needs to be checked, because if the cam sync fails, boom goes the motor.

Re: Timing Chain

On a pushrod motor like the 3.0, the timing chain isn't anywhere near as much of an issue as it is on an OHC motor. I wouldn't worry about the chain till 250K, the cam sensor is the one you need to worry about, as stated above.
