anyone? help please?

Re: Cam sensor condition? code P0340
That code is indeed for the camshaft position sensor. Either your CPS is bad, or you have a wiring fault. Knowing the age of the truck, the CPS is probably bad. You will need to at the least replace the sensor.
Which motor is this, the 3.0 or the 4.0? |

Re: Cam sensor condition? code P0340
Yes. That is what you need. However, it's recommended you get this and the cam sync from Ford, as the parts store brand ones have a high failure rate. It's not that hard to replace, an experienced mechanic can have it done within a half hour. It's just a matter of finding a decent mechanic who can do it right.
While you're replacing that CPS, you're gonna want to pull your cam sync and check it too. They are notorious for failing on the 3.0, and it's important to keep an eye on them. It's the half-distributor thing that the CPS bolts to. Also, 96 was the verge of the swap from distributors to a distributor-less ignition system on Ford Rangers, so you may have a different style CPS. |

Re: Cam sensor condition? code P0340
Here's a thread on another forum that details how to replace the cam sync. There are two methods to do this, this one is the harder one, but I believe it's the more detailed and exact one. Part one is the simpler one, and may be better for you. However, I can't find the link for it.
http://www.rangerpowersports.com/for...-a-226289.html Here's a pic of the location. This pic shows the back of the motor. http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r...g?t=1292761717 As far as cost from Ford goes, it tends to be in a steep range, from $150-$210 for the CPS and the Cam Sync. This is well worth it as when the cam sync fails, the oil pump stops spinning, the truck loses oil pressure, and the motor goes boom. |

No problem. The best way to get them is just go to the dealer. Shipping would just add to the bill.

Re: Cam sensor condition? code P0340
THe only reason i'm gonna do this repair is because when i bought the truck 13k miles ago almost a year the check engine light was on and it was for this code and its been on this entire time and my check engine light bulb just burned out last week so i figure while i have the money (income tax time) fix the major stuff i didn't know this would be so costly but i can't risk this going out. i dont know how long the light was on with this code before i got the truck so it could of been on for 20k or more without any attention so i think i'll get the part and wait a month for more money and have it put in or attempt with some help to do it myself

Re: Cam sensor condition? code P0340
I understand man. My truck doesn't have any lights or anything, but come January when I have some extra income coming in, first thing i'm getting for my truck is the CPS/ Cam Sync. $200 is alot cheaper than $500-$3K for a replacement motor.lol.
If you read that link a few times, it starts to make more and more sense. Alot of guys without mechanical knowledge have replaced the cam sync without a problem. If you do decide to tackle the problem, feel free to post back here and ask for help. We'll be glad to lead ya along.:) |
Re: Cam sensor condition? code P0340

Re: Cam sensor condition? code P0340
LOL! Those rusty bolts will always get ya.
Thanks man! I've always liked the Edge Rangers too. It wasn't at the top of my list when I was looking for a Ranger, since I just wanted to be back in a Ranger, but this one kinda fell into my lap, so I jumped on it. Couldn't be any happier.:D |

Was it 94 or 95 that was the last year for the Disty, I swear 95 was the last year for Tauruses.
