2 questions

I checked for a thread like this, but I didn't find the questions and answers I was looking for.

1) Will a Mass Air flow snesor from O'riellys work with my truck, because my check engine light keeps coming back on. I'm on my 2nd one. Every time I run a diagnostics check MAFS codes show up.

2) Is there anyway to check a fuel pump to see if it is bad? I'd like to find out if it bad before I spend all this money to replace it.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Re: 2 questions

the codes are p0171 and p0174 are lean bank one and bank two right? a bad MAF is only one of the possible causes for those codes. bad o2 sensors, vacuum leak (probably the most common), bad DPFE sensor, EGR not closing all the way and insufficient fuel flow are other possible causes. before you start throwing more MAF's at it you need to rule out the rest of the possible causes. you say your fuel pump is bad, does your truck run at all? if not can you hear the pump cycle when you turn the key to the on position? if you cant hear it than thats a good indication it is bad. if the pump turns out to be bad that could be the reason you are throwing those codes.

A MAF from oriellys will work if it is the correct application.

You can check the fuel pump click ===> http://www.type2.com/library/fuel/efuelpmp.htm

If you lay under the truck by the fuel tank, and have some one turn the key you should hear a buzz sound.

I wouldnt replace the MAF just yet, I think like Patrick says vaccuum leak may be the issue

I can hear the pump cycle from the driver seat.

Not the last time I tried to crank it.

That is a hell no. I tried to crank it a minute ago and it sounded like shit.

Re: 2 questions

Pat, doesn't his truck have a fuel pump relay? I had a similar situation with another vehicle, replaced the fuel pump and it was the relay after putting 1,000 into it

Re: 2 questions

did the truck run fine when it still had the stock MAF in it? if it did and you still have it put that back in.

Re: 2 questions

I am going to check today to see if this is the fuel pump or just the relay. Crossing my fingers for good results.

Re: 2 questions

you said in an earlier post that you can hear the pump cycle from the drivers seat, that rules out a pump or relay issue.
