Remote Turbo Set Up On A 302?
 

Is a remote turbo set up possible to do with a 302 in a ranger. If so what size exhaust pipe would have to be used to run the exhaust to the turbo?

It is very possible, and it has allready been done. You would want at least 3 inch if not 3.5. Man thing is you want to mount the turbo to the frame rail so its weight is supported. You need to tap into the block for oil feed and return as well as a external pump to keep oil flowing. I would look for a hx50 turbo, or a ebay GT45 with the right housing to how much power your looking at making. I would also look at doing a 351w since the blocks are alot stronger. 302s can crack under boost. I think your fine if your top hp goal is under 600hp at the flywheel, otherwise its best to have a 351w or C or aftermarket block. Windsors and clevelands are good to 700 or 800 hp with forged pistons rods and crank. Keep up with the questions and I'll check back with some answers.

would a 351 fit a 1994 Ford Ranger XLT 3.0L V-6 without a body lift? also how much hp would a 302 create with the turbo you mentioned?

you could make 500 to 600 hp at the wheels. GT45 is an ebay turbo, and they seam to be pretty good for the 300.00 price tag. Also a 351w will fit just fine. They are a bit wider and need a bit more of the heater box cut out, but besides that, they have been done plenty of times. You looking to make this thing super fast. I would go with aluminum heads for sure. Edelbrock victor jrs, afr, trickflow, canfield, procomp, and I think RHS makes some now. Aluminum heads help with the cooling that you need with a turbo build. I would look for some 8.5 to 9 to 1 forged pistons. Speed pro probubly makes the cheapest ones. I would look for eagle or scat crank/rods, and have it balanced. I would also get arp main bolts as well as heads. You want to do efi or carb? Both can be done, but carbs are easier to tune and cheaper. Efi will give you better fuel economy though.
