Seats that fit in the Ranger

REG CAB SEATS BOLT INTO REG CAB TRUCKS X-CAB TO X-CAB IN ORDER TO PUT THESE SEATS IN A REG CAB YOU NEED TO USE 93-97 SEATS TRACKS ON THEM, X-CAB MAY OR MAY NOT BOLT RIGHT IN YOU MAY NEED TO ENLARGE A HOLE OR TWO

All the info provided is NOT my work it is the work of Allan D and is being used with the persmission of Allan D a Tech Advisor on TRS. he did say that it is sorta out of date and does not include newer models. Please feel free to add to this since I know there is more info that is needed. I am hoping that this will answer the questions that we are always getting about seats that fit. Pictures of the seat that you have swapped would also be nice to add to this. If you have something to add let me know so that I can update this and give you credit. Thank you.

Here is what seats will bolt in to a Ranger:
Explorer96-01 ( and newer I beleive)

Expo sport seats fit 03-05 ( info provided by 4evermodding)

Tempo/Topaz
All years. Tempo GT's are the nicest. Tilting "pillow" headrest and frequently power lumbar.

Escort/Lynx
1981-1991? GT's again are the nicest, "Halo" style headrest, sometimes power lumbar.

(The 'Halo' Buckets in the TRS-2 Ranger are from an Escort GT)

Mustang
Don't bother looking they will be gone when you get there. If you're lucky, look for Mustang GT's. Also halo style headrests on GTs.

Thunderbird
1982-1988, Turbocoupe has nicest seats same as Mustang GT but with tilting "pillow" head rests, almost always power-lumbar, adjustable thigh support, adjustable side bolsters on base. The best factory ford seat (IMHO).

1986 Merkur XR4TI
The front seats from an 86 Merkur XR4TI will fit in a B2, so I assume rangers too, If you drill out the rivets, and swap the brackets from the tracks, 1/2 hour per, the seats I used gave me height adjust, adjustable headrest, lumbar support, much better lateral support, (no more bouncing out of the seatbelt) and they're heated. (Submitted by Merc)

All of these will bolt directly to your factory tracks if you have either Buckets or split-bench.

If you have a conventional bench then you will need to replace your tracks with split-bench/bucket-seat tracks. (Toss your solid bench tracks they are completely different).

You will have to run a Tap through some pre drilled holes in the bottom of the seat frames. The holes are already there but unthreaded.

If you have a conventional cab Ranger you will probably have to use the "halo" style headrest used in Mustangs and Escort GT models, as the pillow style will hit the rear window. This forces the seat back into a very upright position. (and is EXTREMELY uncomfortable)

If you have a Supercab Ranger or a Bronco2 headrest clearance isn't an issue.

One other word of warning Ranger Standard-cab, Ranger Supercab and Bronco II's all have different floor pan profiles and so use different seat tracks, so if you want to put buckets or a split-bench into a std cab Ranger you must get your seat tracks out of a std cab Ranger.

Also-1991-93 Explorer Sport or Mazda Navajo seats.- they are identical in most ways to the Mustang GT/thunderbord turbocoupe seats but they have a thinner seatback which doesn't force you to sit hunched over the steering column in a standard cab. Provided by Allan D

Just installed some seats from a 98 Explorer 2Dr into my 96 Ranger Single Cab.. Not quite done yet.. i made the installation overly complicated and decided to drill all the rivets from the bottom of the tracks... when they just unbolt! DOH!
Will be sure to get some pics up.. these seats are the comfiest i've ever sat in.. power leather too.. and scored em from the yard for 40$... FOR THE PAIR!

I've got a 1999 xlt 4x4 and would like to re-upholster the seats. The foam padding is broken down and need to be replaced. Does anyone know of a website to get the foam cushions?

I appreciate the info, just to add this info can be found on TRS, with the exception that the expo seats are not included, but you forgot to add that the expo sport track seats fit also, they are a direct bolt in up to 2003 to possibly 2005 i believe. Thanks for sharing.

no one sells replacement buns for that new of a truck. the dealership may have them, but highly unlikely. if they do, be prepared to pay $300 per cushion.

take it to an upholstery shop. i've fixed a bench seat one time where literally half the foam was gone. we include fixing the foam when we replace or fix the covers.

You can use the expo or any of the seats listed I cant remember but if they dont bolt right in then you can use the 97 seat brackets to bolt them in.

Re: Seats that fit in the Ranger

I'm wanting to put buckets in my 2001 Ford Ranger XL two door with 60/40 split seats. What seats are interchangeable, if any? I've read that manual styled Explorer bucket seats will bolt to the stock Ranger two door frame rail, but I've heard it's hard to find a pair like that.

Also, what work, if any needs to be done to fit bucket seats from said Explorer or Sporttrack? I have a salvage yard able to sell me either for a good 40 bucks.

Re: Seats that fit in the Ranger

98+ reg cab ranger will only bolt in 98+ reg cab ranger seats. if you want explorer, mustang or any of the others in the first post, you will need to adapt a set of 93-97 reg cab ranger tracks. some people say those will bolt in, while others have had to modify them. not sure why there are two stories. if you have an ext cab, explorer seats will pretty much bolt in. you may need to enlarge a hole or two.

Re: Seats that fit in the Ranger

Thanks for the input. I don't know why there's two stories either...I am hiping to take the 40 portion of the passenger seat out this weekend and see if I can get the seat tracks off one of either seats to adapt them as you say. I have also heard from other forums rthat the seats in general as far as size goe don't fit well. That is another point I would like to have addressed if possible..most everyone I've talked to on here generally know ehat they're talking about...on other sites it seems like a bunch of people are just blowing a lot of wind. Also does anyone know of who I should talk to that has done a 3.0 to 3.8 swap? The shop I have been dealing with agrees that working on a 3.0 would be counter intuitive for my budget and goals in mind really.
