Is there a step bar on the Fx4? That could be creating the appearance of the truck sitting lower.

Ahh, If the XLT doesn't have step bars, then there's the problem. I know when I pulled the step bars from my 03 to switch them around, the truck looked like it gained a couple inches of height.

However I have heard that the newer Fx4s do sit lower, but that was compared to the older Fx4s.

Yeah, the newer trucks do sit lower. Like 2WD status.

Re: looking to replace my old ranger

I lost my '03 XLT FX4 with a run-in with a deer last month and replaced it with a new '11 Sport FX4. It's not the same truck. When I first sat in the '11, I noticed it sat lower. I checked the specs. on both trucks and found the '03 XLT FX4 sat 68.75 inches, while the '11 Sport FX4 sat 67.5 inches. Only 1.25 inches difference, but a difference I noticed right away.
The tires in the '03 were 31x10.5R15, close to 31" in diameter, while the tires on the '11 are 255x70R16 and are close to 30" in diameter.

thats cause they stopped making FX4's. all rangers that are called FX$'s are SPORTS with an FX4 badge. thats why they sit lower.
