2.3 rebuild

How much is it to rebuild a 2.3 stock engine. Today i was out playing in the snow we got here in indiana and it started missing out really bad. so i was on my way home and got stuck after i had someone pull me out it started to knock really bad. If anyone could help me out it would be appreciated. Thanks

Knocking as in the bearings on the piston and crank are shot?

well the knock is comeing from the carb. it has a throttle body though. the motor still sounds ok its got a lifter problem but its had that for 2 months. it still runs its just missing out real bad and when you give it gas it knocks.

2.0s and 1.8s came with chains. 2.3s came with belts....when it messes up....you will know it. Your timing will be off and your truck will run crappy or won't run at all. Don't ask how I know...lol.

Remember to keep your timing belt changed at so many miles to prevent engine damage!

haha well believe me its running like crap missing out and its running like 3k rpm when you start it. you have to punch it to get the rpms to come down.

should be like 8 or 10 at an idle. Check with a timing light, and make sure the plastic cover for your belt is tight for a proper read. As far as the rebuild goes, if you do it your self, you could do it for 300 to 400, and have an almost new engine again. This would be installing new rings, and bearings, and gaskets, and honing the engine. Do get it figured out, cause throwing a rod through the block makes it hard to rebuild.
