Speedometer / ABS on 99 Ranger

Hello all! This is my first post on FordRangerForum.com, but I assure you that there will be many more. I'm always in need of help.

I have a 99 2 door ranger, 2.5 4 cylinder. The brake lights have went out a few times (electrical), which have been replaced.

The key chimer has been on for months, even if the key isn't in and lights off. I can lock and close the door, walk away for 10 minutes and it'll still be on sometimes. Although very annoying, that has never been much of a problem.

Today I started up the truck, and my ABS light is on, it's never been on before. On top of that, my speedometer is stuck all the way left, where zero would be. I don't know what any of this means, so if you could please, enlighten me.

Also, on top of that, while cruising in 5th gear after the ABS and speedometer faulted out, my truck started shaking like it was about to "kill". The battery light came on, and my oil gauge dropped all the way down too. I hit the gas pretty hard and that made the battery light and oil gauge fix.

So, is this the start of a huge electrical breakdown? Any quick fixes, or should I head for the shop now?

Thanks.

A couple of possibilities:
  • Fuse 14 in the dash box.
  • The ABS sensor on top of the differential housing is bad. It also supplies the vehicle speed signal. This is usually what kills the speedo and turns on the ABS light for 98~2000 Rangers. About $20 for a new sensor, easy to install.
