'40 Ford and other work stuff. 56k be aware
Been working on a '40 Ford sedan at the shop for a couple weeks now. Thought I would share some progress on it. Headliner is black suede, and will have black carpet. Everything else is red.
Pics of the car. Just came from paint. Has real fire painted coming out of the louvers on the hood. Anyone want to guess the engine? http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010133547.jpg http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010133557.jpg Recovered factory dash. Added all new gauges and SS trim: http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010155608.jpg http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010155615.jpg Front seats are from an Explorer. The backrests were reshaped to match the back seat, but the bottoms are original. http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010133509.jpg http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010152445.jpg http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010152650.jpg Back seat if from a Dodge car IIRC. It has been cut, narrowed, and reshaped to fit. Even the arm rest was narrowed almost 3". The console was built to give the look of buckets, and the bottoms are the Dodge back seat bottom after a lot of reshaping. http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010133528.jpg http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010174448.jpg http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010170621.jpg http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010152524.jpg http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010152545.jpg That's were we stand on it right now. |

And some other stuff I've done lately.
Recovered a mid 90s Toyota bench to look like a 60s seat. http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010164014.jpg http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010115520.jpg http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010132645.jpg http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010132657.jpg Redid the insets in a Saturn. Yellow in the middle with black CF welt cord: http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010172335.jpg 67ish Camaro seats redone in black and silver CF: http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010171654.jpg http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010111952.jpg http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010130818.jpg Did a Simulated Convertible (Sim Con) on a 03ish Lincoln. This was a fresh install meaning this car never had a top on it before. We get a huge fiberglass shell that is wrapped and mounted to the car. http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010172716.jpg http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010172800.jpg And last but not least, and one of my favorite jobs lately, custom poker tables. The rails are padded then wrapped. The table gets a light padding and then suede. This one measures out at 8' by almost 4'. http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010133322.jpg http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010130108.jpg http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010155543.jpg |

Well the motor is strange, it has a rear distributor but ford decals....!

Re: '40 Ford and other work stuff. 56k be aware
Talent. The reuse of the seat impressed me, because the end result is so spot on.

Awesome work! I have a question. I just did the headliner in my truck with synthetic suede. I found it almost impossible to get the damn thing on without wrinkles. Do you spray the whole thing, or a little at a time? What is your method?

Re: '40 Ford and other work stuff. 56k be aware
what kind of suede did you use? one with a foam backing? if not, it probably didn't have any stretch and that's why you have wrinkles. but when i do headliners, i do half at a time.
here are a few i've done here. Jeep before: http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010092249.jpg gluing (you can see how i have it folded in half): http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010095648.jpg finished: http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...2010112012.jpg Nissan Truck before: http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r.../p_00174-1.jpg after: http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r.../p_00176-1.jpg fox body with flames: http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...y/P7030290.jpg Saturn: http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/r...ry/p_00178.jpg |
Re: '40 Ford and other work stuff. 56k be aware
It did not have foam backing or stretch at all. I guess I'll have to look for better quality stuff next time. I did it on the truck for practice. My car needs it done, but I am afraid to tackle a headliner twice the size since I had such a hard time with the first one. Thanks for the tips and pics though. That glue is nothing to mess with, WOW is it strong.
Here's how it turned out, the wrinkles were in the front corners, and I am sure you can see where some glue bled through. http://www.fordrangerforum.com/proje...tml#post222023 |
Re: '40 Ford and other work stuff. 56k be aware
doesn't look bad. i would suggest getting the suedeliner from yourautotrim.com it has the foam backing and it stretches. the foam will keep you from having bleed through.
as for the glue, it doesn't bother me. i use it daily and am so used to it, it's no big deal. now, it gets strong when you are in a boat hull laying carpet. |
