screw the 302 HAHA, put a 4bt cummins in! That has been done! Mind you the 4bt is not the 6bt(5.9L in the dodge cummins) its the 4-cylinder... its like a 3.9L i think but hauls!

I think you can even squeeze a 351 in there if you really want...

yes you can install any motor you can fit or make fit, as for a bolt in and go not much options a 5.0 from a explorer will go very smooth

98blownranger is very correct! I've heard of guys putting the 300 straight six in, and other guys fabing the truck to put the 5.9L cummins in too. However, the most common is the 5.0L like he said. Very easy as compared to anything else, check out advanceadapters to help ya out, since you'll have to replace an oil pan, and play with the exhaust to get it to fit right. I'd rather just hop the 4.0L up, not a big fan of motor swaps haha

My dad always told me to buy the motor ya want in the truck already haha

A dude on TRS has a big ass big block. A 5?? Somethin. But if you can fab motor mounts, if you can fab transmission and t case mounts, and make enough firewall mods you can make anything happen.

If I ditch my 3.0 I'm stroking a 460 to a 517 or making a 427 Small block. Yes, I said 427 small block.

yeah, imnot to big into these engine swaps, afterall the 4.0L produces enough torque and power for me, maybe id swap if i had a little our-banger in there though...

Some where on the net is a pair of picture of two Ranger 2x4's with slicks that should be on a dragster, as a mater of fact they are.
One of the Rangers has a 4.9 that is stroked, blown, and NOS.
The other has a 6.3? Ford diesel with propane injection and quite a list of other mods.
They both turn in the 8's and 9's.
Anthing is possible if you have enough imagination and $$$$$$$$$$.

If you dont have deep pockets you can scratch the cummins engine
That there is a total custom build where everything for it to fit has to be made.

I work with the 3.9 5.9 and 8.3 cummins engines at work and I would love to drop one into my 89 ranger. The money involved is what keeps me from it

You should look for a 2.3 svo mustang engine or the 2.3 turbo from a 80's t-bird and throw in there. Everyone does the 302

Is there any write ups on the 2.3l turbo coupe engine swap?

99331ranger 09-01-2009 02:49 PM

you should look for a lincoln that is in bad shpe but runs, buy the car and you will have the computer, wiring harness, and what ever you need to do the swap, if you want to build poneys, go with a mustang
