traction bars?

i have become mildly interested in the idea of traction bars but dont really understand them fully. could someone explain them a little more. i just sort wanna know if they are an off road thing or a street thing or both? and what there benefit is other then keeping the leafs and shackles from getting all twisted up. sorry if its a dumb question, im just sorta curious.

Re: traction bars?

Traction bars are hefty rigid bars or tubes of tempered steel with pivoted brackets on both ends. The front ends of the bars connect to the front spring mounts on the vehicle frame. The rear brackets bolt to the bottom of the drive axle. Traction bars keep the axle from twisting backwards while it forces the drive wheels to turn forwards, completely eliminating leaf spring windup, and keeping the rear drive wheels forced down to the pavement for superior traction.

sounds cool. i sorta wanna get some cause my rear end likes to bounce alot and these sound like a pretty good idea. are they hard to install?

awesome thanks for the quick response. i wanna get the james duff traction bars like 01_ranger_4x4 has though cause they go over the leafs and would probably look better then the kind that hang below and since hes running shackles on his rear like i soon will i know theyll work with them.
